We receive a lot of questions about the scholarship program, and have attempted to answer many of them here. If you have a question that is not addressed, please contact us.
Where do I find the cost of my tutiion, books, or course fees?
This information can be obtained from your college or university financial aid, business, cashier or similar office. In general, tuition is the cost per credit hour to take courses at your chosen school. For example, $250 per credit hour for a 12-hour course load is $3,000 or $6,000 for a full academic year.
The cost of books and suppleis can generally be estimated by the school as well. Some univeristies have begun assessing a general book access fee and providing the books to students instead of requiring a student to go purchase the books elsewhere. This fee usually provides a digital or hard copy version of the book at the discretion of the student or professor. The course fees could be items like lab fees for taking a chemestry ourse for example.
All of this cost data can be obtained from the university or viewed on the website of the college by searching for tuition and fees or cost of attendance.
I am only planning to earn a certificate; will this scholarship help?
Yes, the Weatherly Scholarship does support students seeking a certificate. These are evalauted just like a degree. You will need to provide the costs of the certificate program just like you would for tuition to earn a degree. Please contact the school you plan to attend for that information to ensure you are providing correct information.
Am I required to submit the FAFSA for this scholarship?
While you are not requried to submit the Free Applicaiton for Federal Student Aid to receive this scholarship, it is evalauted as part of your financial need. We ask that you provide us with the Student Aid Report provided as the results of your FAFSA. If you need help locating this report please reach out to the Federal Student Aid support center.
I do not plan to submit the FAFSA, will this disqualify me from the scholarship?
Instead of the FAFSA Student aid Report, you must provide a copy (if PDF format) of you or your parents most recent form 1040 tax return. We do not need the attachments only the form 1040. Without this data our reviewers cannot objectively assess your financial need.
